Due to the recent Autodesk Fusion 360 announcement that was sent out in an email to Fusion 360 users earlier this week, we at Pocket NC wanted to drop a quick note to make sure it is clear what these changes are and how we think they will affect the use of the Pocket NC machines.
For those of you who do not know, at the end of March Fusion 360 will be restructuring what features and toolpath options will be available in the core license and what features and toolpaths will only be available with the manufacturing extension. This restructuring will only affect the core commercial license, not the education or personal/hobby use licenses. More detail on what specific features are being added and removed from the core license can be found in an Autodesk article posted*** here***. The article also gives the details on a “Fireside Chat” that will be hosted by Autodesk for users to provide feedback and voice any concerns they may have.
The change that may affect Pocket NC users the most is the movement of all 4 and 5 axis simultaneous toolpaths to the Machining Extension. While this is certainly disappointing, we have found that the vast majority of our customers do not use those toolpaths much, if at all. Most Pocket NC users are utilizing 3+1 and 3+2 machining strategies to cut complex parts, which will both still be available in the core license.
